Such a shame to let you go
All the years we'll never know
It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way
I could never be your friend
It would always be deception
Suppose that's why this has to end
It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way
It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way
Will I never be your friend
Will I never be your lover
Could this really be the end?
It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way
It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way

Floating on the Dead Sea in the dark
Both eyes shut but ears tuned to the stars
Broadcasting a message from his mind
Waiting for an answer of some kind
Talk to me, when will you talk to me?
Is there a reason you are ignoring me?
When will you talk to me? Why don't you talk to me?
How can I know this is the right frequency?
Crouching down on all fours in the shadows
Heart pacing and breathing sharp but shallow
Dares to whisper in the walkie talkie
Knowing he might be heard by the zombies
Talk to me, when will you talk to me?
Is there a reason you are ignoring me?
When will you talk to me? Why don't you talk to me?
How can I know this is the right frequency?
When will I hear from you, hear from you?

I can't look at you with eyes that don't idolise you
But I can look away
And slip back into the crowd, and never stop to turn around
Never see you again
I've been trying different drugs lately
To keep my head above water
I do better when I'm not on love
Though you could have been my dearest friend
It seems you will be just one of
Seven billion people I will never know
One night at church I saw a face which brought my faith to life again
Showed the truth to the rumours
That the sea has many fish and even coelacanths exist
But the land is my home now
I've been trying different drugs lately
To keep my head above water
I do better when I'm not on love
Though he might become my dearest friend
I bet he will be just one of
Seven billion people I will never know
No matter what I try
No matter how I fight
No matter how I kick splash and scream
I'll only go down
It's not that hard to stay afloat when you throw the prophet off the boat
And relinquish the false hope
It's funny now to realise I don't have to compromise on
Anything else to move on
And I can look at you with eyes that don't idolise you
Yes I can look at you with eyes that see things that are wrong with you
But I won't look away
I won't turn away
I won't walk away just yet
Just yet

It's something you can't buy
Something you can't win easily
It's something you can miss
Even though you see it all around
Some say it's a game
That can be fatal to lose
Now don't be fooled
You must abide by the rules
It either happens on its own, or it's never gonna happen
You can take it when it's offered but the offer will not last
And you can try to trick the system and you might get pretty far
But if there's one thing that is certain it's that you're not in control at all
It's something you can fake
Something anyone can imitate
It's something you can spoil
But that is worse than nothing at all
So make up your mind
Do you want the truth or a lie ?
You must realise
You must realise
You're not in control

Spin in circles until you fall down
And the world keeps spinning round even when you stop
Climb a mountain, or any high place
Though you might seem very small compared to outer space
I promise you you'll never be alone,
Feel alone again
Remote islands, or city centres
They are not so different if no one knows you're there
Crowded places, so many strangers
But all you need is for one of them to look at you and smile
I promise you you'll never be alone,
Feel alone again
Work will be there, to make your days pass
But when the work is done will there be silence in your home?
Distant voices of social media
Or your son and daughter there to meet you at the door?
I promise you you'll never be alone,
Feel alone again

about
Much to the relief of the pianist,
And anyone who might have overheard his croaking session,
The pianist had friends,
Friends who knew how to sing,
How to sing very well, in fact.
So when he'd had his fun trying to do it himself,
He did something that all wise pianists do,
When they write songs which need singers.
He called up his friends who were singers,
And asked them to sing.
And his friends, who were good friends,
Were only too happy to oblige.
