Ailahteleva 03:09
No, my fickle heart, there cannot be two You should know, my fickle heart, you should know by now That you can't even care for one properly How, my fickle heart, could you do this again? Ailah... ailah... ailahteleva Ailah... ailah... ailahteleva She, she will be the one She, she will be the one Don't expect me to believe that you've found the one When you've found so many ones already This time I couldn't care to hear your nonsense Worthless little heart, I don't trust you any more Ailah... ailah... ailahteleva Ailah... ailah... ailahteleva No, think of it no more No, it won't help you let go No, it wouldn't be good for you No, it's time you learned from your mistakes
2.
Such a shame to let you go All the years we'll never know It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way I could never be your friend It would always be deception Suppose that's why this has to end It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way Will I never be your friend Will I never be your lover Could this really be the end? It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way It can't be, it can't be, it can't be the only way

If it happens to God then why not to me? Love comes without a return guarantee And who says I'll ever love you? Maybe I'll just admire you from afar. So if your road and mine never meet And someday I must admit defeat I'll call out from here: Go well and go far Go well and go far Go in peace and be blessed One day I'll stop trying to see you Go well and go far I can only expect the future to repeat the past All that I've known is all I can forecast. But who says it goes like clockwork? Maybe the rules I've observed don't actually apply But if they do oh if they do And you too must choose to pass me by I'll call out from here: Go well and go far Go well and go far Go in peace and be blessed One day I'll stop trying to see you Go well and go far [But if you hear the broken sound of my voice It's not too late to turn around, The choice remains to come back and walk next to me]

I can't look at you with eyes that don't idolise you But I can look away And slip back into the crowd, and never stop to turn around Never see you again I've been trying different drugs lately To keep my head above water I do better when I'm not on love Though you could have been my dearest friend It seems you will be just one of Seven billion people I will never know One night at church I saw a face which brought my faith to life again Showed the truth to the rumours That the sea has many fish and even coelacanths exist But the land is my home now I've been trying different drugs lately To keep my head above water I do better when I'm not on love Though she could become my dearest friend I bet she will be just one of Seven billion people I will never know No matter what I try No matter how I fight No matter how I kick splash and scream I'll only go down It's not that hard to stay afloat when you throw the prophet off the boat And relinquish the false hope It's funny now to realise I don't have to compromise on Anything else to move on And I can look at you with eyes that don't idolise you Yes I can look at you with eyes that see things that are wrong with you But I won't look away I won't turn away I won't walk away just yet Just yet

In Control 03:37
It's something you can't buy Something you can't win easily It's something you can miss Even though you see it all around Some say it's a game That can be fatal to lose Now don't be fooled You must abide by the rules It either happens on its own, or it's never gonna happen You can take it when it's offered but the offer will not last And you can try to trick the system and you might get pretty far But if there's one thing that is certain it's that you're not in control at all It's something you can fake Something anyone can imitate It's something you can spoil But that is worse than nothing at all So make up your mind Do you want the truth or a lie? It either happens on its own, or it's never gonna happen You can take it when it's offered but the offer will not last And you can try to trick the system and you might get pretty far But if there's one thing that is certain it's that you're not in control at all You must realise You must realise You're not in control It either happens on its own, or it's never gonna happen You can take it when it's offered but the offer will not last And you can try to trick the system and you might get pretty far But if there's one thing that is certain it's that you're not in control at all

Talk to Me 02:41
Floating on the Dead Sea in the dark Both eyes shut but ears tuned to the stars Broadcasting a message from his mind Waiting for an answer of some kind Talk to me, when will you talk to me? Is there a reason you are ignoring me? When will you talk to me? Why don't you talk to me? How can I know this is the right frequency? Crouching down on all fours in the shadows Heart pacing and breathing sharp but shallow Dares to whisper in the walkie talkie Knowing he might be heard by the zombies Talk to me, when will you talk to me? Is there a reason you are ignoring me? When will you talk to me? Why don't you talk to me? How can I know this is the right frequency? When will I hear from you, hear from you?

Two by two they came in Two by two they came in Two by two You can't come in alone You can't come in alone You can't come

Mechanisms 02:57
Ten - so it begins Nine - all those moving parts Eight - they have a mind of their own Doors are slamming shut New walls are going up Soon nothing will move in or out because Mechanisms have been activated What they do cannot be undone Three - better think fast Two - you better react fast One - you better say something fast because Mechanisms have been activated What they do cannot be undone

There are many other ways you could say what you mean I suppose silence gets the job done fine Fair enough Jess, fair enough There are other times you could do this to me I suppose now is as good as it gets Fair enough Jess, fair enough It's not your fault that I am the needy one The one who feels the strife And I am the bleeding one When nobody's even touched a knife It's been nearly seven days since I heard from you last I suppose seven more won't change my life Fair enough Jess, fair enough It's a fine day in LA in the picture you sent I suppose Cape Town has days finer yet Fair enough Jess, fair enough It's not your fault that I am the needy one The one who feels the strife And I am the bleeding one When nobody's even touched a knife

This Craft 04:48
This craft wasn't made to skim speedily along the surface This craft was made to dive down deep and never come up These shoes were made to be worn by wretched schoolboys These shoes weren't made for dancing, why do they all still waltz in them? We're looking for a plot, some solid ground which we can build our house on We keep ending up pulling tent pegs out the sand This craft wasn't made to skim speedily along the surface This craft was made to dive down deep and never come up

Spin in circles until you fall down And the world keeps spinning round even when you stop Climb a mountain, or any high place Though you might seem very small compared to outer space I promise you you'll never be alone, feel alone again Remote islands, or city centres They are not so different if no one knows you're there Crowded places, so many strangers But all you need is for one of them to look at you and smile I promise you you'll never be alone, feel alone again Work will be there, to make your days pass But when the work is done will there be silence in your home? Distant voices of social media Or your son and daughter there to meet you at the door? I promise you you'll never be alone, feel alone again

about

The pianist tried many things, succeeding at some, failing at others
Sometimes when he failed, he wrote a song about it
He ended up writing quite a number of songs

The pianist had fingers for playing piano
He did not, however, have a voice for singing
He did have a voice, it was true
But some thought it was a bit croaky
And he thought so too

Despite this not-so-insignificant fact
One afternoon when reciting the old masterpieces did not quite suit his mood
The pianist wondered to himself what it might be like
To sing the songs he had written
To sing them himself

The pianist looked around to see if anyone was listening - not a soul
So he puffed up his chest,
Raised his chin,
Opened his mouth,
And tried to sing.

This album consists of songs for piano and voice only, written between 2014 and 2015. The order of the tracks on the album reflects the chronology in which they were written.

A "no fiddling" approach was adopted for the production of these tracks, meaning that standard production tools such as EQ, reverb, compression, etc. were not used at all. Everything sounds exactly how it sounded when performed - no better and no worse.

released December 30, 2015

All songs composed, performed and recorded by Richard "Diini" Dean.

Album art by Emily Grobler.

Special thanks to Alex for the wonderful gift of a condenser microphone, to Leanne for challenging me to write more "pop-y" music, and to Rachelle for suggesting the chord theme underlying "I Promise You". Special thanks also to A, M, R, C and J whose mere existence, unbeknown to them, constituted the necessary and sufficient condition for the writing of most of these songs.
